Landscaping in Sioux Falls, SD

Design, planting, rock and mulch beds, retaining walls, edging, and low-voltage lighting — built to hold up through South Dakota winters and look right every spring.

One Bed or the Whole Yard

About half our landscaping work is a single bed someone has been meaning to fix for two years. The other half is a full property from bare dirt up. Both get the same attention.

We handle plant installation, mulch and rock beds, retaining walls, defined edging, and landscape lighting for homes and businesses across Sioux Falls, Harrisburg, Tea, and Brandon.

What matters in this climate isn't how a bed looks on install day — it's whether it still looks that way after a hard freeze and a wet spring. Plant selection, proper bed prep, and real edging are what make that difference, and they're where we spend the extra time.

What We Do

Plant Installation

Trees, shrubs, perennials and grasses chosen for the sun, soil and exposure they'll actually live in.

Mulch & Rock Beds

New beds installed or existing ones refreshed — mulch or decorative rock, with proper fabric and prep underneath.

Retaining Walls

Block walls that hold grade, level and true, with capstone finished clean at corners and returns.

Edging

Paver and cut edging that keeps rock in the bed and grass out of it — the detail that holds a landscape together.

Landscape Lighting

Low-voltage path lighting and uplighting, installed by us start to finish. No subcontractors.

Landscape Design

From a walkthrough with ideas on the spot to a full plan drawn up before anything gets dug.

Design That Fits the Project

Some people know exactly what they want and just need it built. Others have a blank yard and no idea where to start. We work either way.

A walkthrough costs nothing — we'll talk through options standing in your yard. For larger projects where you want a real plan before committing, we'll put a design together. If we charge for that design, the fee goes toward the project when you move forward.

Retaining Walls

A retaining wall is one of the few landscape features that has a job beyond looking good — it holds grade, manages runoff, and turns a slope you can't use into usable yard.

Built wrong, it leans within a few seasons. We take the time on base prep and drainage so the wall stays where you put it, then finish the capstone clean at every corner.

Landscape Lighting

A landscape you paid for is visible about half the hours you're actually home to enjoy it. Lighting is the difference between a yard that disappears at sunset and one that looks its best at nine at night.

We install low-voltage systems ourselves, start to finish — path lights along walks and beds, uplighting on trees and structures. Path lights and uplights cover most projects, but if you have something specific in mind, we can build to it.

Commercial Landscaping

We've done landscape work for HOAs, warehouse properties, and storefronts around Sioux Falls. Commercial beds have a different job than residential ones — they need to look sharp with minimal fuss, survive being walked past a thousand times a week, and not become a maintenance problem for whoever manages the property.

That usually means durable plantings, rock over mulch where traffic is heavy, and edging that holds its line. If you also need the turf maintained, see commercial lawn care.

Landscaping FAQ

How much does landscaping cost?

It depends heavily on scope — a single bed refresh and a full property install are very different projects. Materials matter too, since rock, mulch and block all price differently. We quote free after seeing the property.

Do you charge for landscape design?

A walkthrough where we talk through ideas on site is free. For larger projects that need a real plan drawn up before work starts, there may be a design fee — and if you move forward with the project, that fee is credited toward it.

What's the best time of year for landscaping in South Dakota?

Spring and fall are ideal for planting. Rock, mulch, edging and retaining wall work can be done through most of the season as long as the ground isn't frozen. We'll tell you honestly if waiting a few weeks would give you a better result.

Do you install retaining walls?

Yes. Block retaining walls for holding grade, managing runoff, and turning unusable slope into usable yard. Base prep and drainage are where walls succeed or fail, so that's where we spend the time.

Do you do landscape lighting?

Yes, and we install it ourselves rather than subcontracting it out. Low-voltage path lighting and uplighting cover most projects, but we can work to whatever you have in mind.

Can you work with my existing landscape?

Absolutely. A lot of our work is refreshing beds that have gotten overgrown, re-edging lines that have blurred, or swapping tired mulch for rock. You don't have to start over.

Do you do commercial landscaping?

Yes. We've done landscape work for HOAs, warehouse properties and storefronts in the Sioux Falls area, both new installs and ongoing bed maintenance.

Are you insured?

Yes, WinterGreen Services is fully insured for all landscaping and hardscape work.
