Lawn Care & Landscaping in Tea, SD

Tea is growing fast, and most of what we work on there is new — new sod, compacted soil, and yards still waiting to become something.

A Town Full of New Yards

Tea has been going up quickly, and it shows in the properties. Most of what we service there is recent construction: sod that went down in the last couple of seasons, soil that spent months underneath heavy equipment, and yards that are still essentially blank.

New yards look easy and usually are not. Builder sod gets laid over ground compacted flat by trucks and excavators, so roots stay shallow. It looks fine for one spring, then thins out the first time August gets dry. Core aeration is the fix, and doing it early saves reseeding later.

The other half of our work in Tea is landscaping from scratch — putting the first real beds, edging and plantings into a yard that came with none.

What New Construction Yards Actually Need

The two things we get called for most in Tea, and why they matter.

Fixing Compacted Soil

Construction traffic packs soil dense enough that water runs off the surface instead of soaking in.

Sod laid on top of that roots shallow and struggles through the first dry stretch of summer.

Core aeration opens channels through the compacted layer so roots can reach down to where the moisture is.

Landscaping a Blank Yard

New builds usually arrive with grass, a downspout, and not much else.

First installs are the highest-impact work we do — defined beds, real edging, rock or mulch, and plantings chosen for South Dakota rather than whatever was on sale.

It is also the cheapest time to do it, before anything has to be torn out and redone.

Tea Service FAQ

Do you work in the newer Tea developments?

Yes, that is the majority of our work in Tea. New construction properties have specific needs, mostly around compacted soil and establishing landscaping from scratch.

My builder's sod looks thin. What is wrong with it?

Usually compaction rather than the sod itself. Heavy equipment packs the soil underneath so roots cannot get down. Core aeration in the first year or two makes a large difference.

Can you landscape a brand new yard from nothing?

Yes. Blank-slate yards are some of the best projects we do. We will walk it with you and plan beds, edging, rock or mulch, and plantings suited to the site.

Do you mow acreage properties around Tea?

Yes. We run commercial stand-on mowers that handle large open lots and slopes efficiently.

Are you insured?

Yes, WinterGreen Services is fully insured for all work.
